UUJ Ladies Rugby- The Matches
UUJ Ladies vs Lancaster Uni Ladies So far this Season UU Ladies rugby has gone from strength to strength with Wins over QUB 17-53 and more recently Reigning BUSA Division 2 Champions Lancaster University. The Lancaster Match was set to be one of the Highlights of the UUJ calendar with Lancaster touring Ulster this season. And after a few days relaxing, checking out the Ulster sights (Newcastle and the Causeway) the Lancaster Ladies were in fighting form and ready to make their tour with a win Against UUJ... The game started in ernest with Lancaster scoring an early try to give them first blood, and an easy settler into the game... But not to be outdone UUJ broke back immediately with a try from Fullback Sheena 'Dyno' Jamieson. Although this settled UUJ nerves somewhat the Lancaster Ladies were not to be outdone, and after some quick scoring and good breaks from their Captain Lancaster led comfortably at the break 20-35. UUJ took to the pitch with confidence in the second half, knowing that to win, they'd have to do it old-school..... ruck....ruck.... and ruck again!!! UUJ couldn't be stopped.... with awesome breaks from the backline and some amazing turnoverball in the ruck and maul UUJ planted 8 tries in response to 3 from Lancaster giving UUJ a 10 point win! An ecstatic UUJ Captain Jen Goodall paid tribute to the guests saying "Ladies rugby goes from strength to strength based on the bridges we build not only at home but across the water. Lancaster have been great sports and gave us a really good game! We were honoured to host such a quality team and are delighted with the win!!" UUJ now retire to prepare for the upcoming Inter-Campus Tag Tournament in April and the End of Year Biggie..... The Carrick 10s Ladies Tournament on the 6th May.
