A club based largely in the heart of the University.

The UUC Pool Club is the only club in the university to contain both a former world champion Under 18 and a former twice Northern Ireland Champion at U16 and under 21 respectively, not to mention two recently capped international players.

This club prides itself on its competitiveness and its fun based, sociable and welcoming atmosphere. New members are always welcome so come along and join the 8 Ball Pool Club.

BUSA Eightball Pool Championships 2008

University of Ulster (Coleraine) successfully defended their British title in the Team Championship in Coventry at the weekend.  The team (John McAllister (capt), Wayne Lewis, Glen Spalling, Gary Wallace, Aaron Bell and Darren Ryles) made history both by becoming the first team to successfully defend the BUSA Championship, and by completing the unique “British and Irish Intervarsity Double Double!”

UUC were in Group A of the tournament and won all four of their group matches, defeating Teeside, Manchester and Essex all on a scoreline of 6-1, and Durham on a 6-4 scoreline.

In the last 16, UUC came through against Kent, winning 6-3.  However, the team really kicked into gear in the quarter final, defeating a strong Strathclyde team on a 6-0 scoreline!

The semi-final threw up a repeat of the Irish intervarsity final, where UUC faced old rivals Queens.  Queens were quickest out of the blocks, establishing a 4-2 lead and looked favourites to progress to the final.  However, UUC showed the grit of true champions and fought back to win through on a 6-4 scoreline.

UUC faced Nottingham in the final, and again had to do things the hard way.  Nottingham open up a 3-0 lead early on, but UUC fought back again to retain the title on a 6-4 scoreline, with Aaron Bell winning an extremely tense and tactical final frame.

In the individual event, UUC’s Glen Spalling won a Bronze medal, after being edged out in the semi-final by the eventual winner.
